We need your input!
We are looking for people with intellectual disabilities to tell us what nurses, doctors, dentists, and other healthcare professionals need to know and understand about people with intellectual disabilities to provide them with high-quality healthcare services.
Who are we looking for?
- People with intellectual disabilities (18 years old or older)
- People who can communicate in English
- People who are willing to speak up in small groups
What is this project about?
The goal of our project is to evaluate ways to teach healthcare students and professionals (nurses, doctors, dentists, and others) to work with people with intellectual disabilities and talk with them about their health.
What will we ask you to do?
- Take part in a group meeting with 4-5 other people with intellectual disability.
- The meeting will take about 1.5 hours.
- You can take part in person or online.
- In the meeting, you will be asked to share what is helpful to you when you go to a clinic, doctor’s office, or dentist. We want to know what makes you feel welcome, comfortable, and understood.
- Everyone who takes part will receive a $25 gift card.
If you are interested in taking part in the meeting, please contact the project coordinators, Lisa Angel and Kennedy Sheppard, with the subject line ‘Group Meeting’. After you contact them, we will follow up with you. Thank you!
